BJÖRN WESSMAN - 2001

PROJECT

Björn Wessmans book "Park" was published in march 2001 in swedish and french. It contents his own texts and pictures. The writing, as well as the music, exist as a dialogue to his on going paintings. His texts and pictures are meant to be independent to each other, but they are chosen because they have something in common as an experience, or reference: a colour, a perfume, a taste....

"Imbedded, deep in the glowing green espalier of Kiwi, I'm overlooking the mountain garden. The ravines are murmuring wet with agercrowfoots. The deep blue of Gentiana is burning holes in the green. Thyme in thousand tufts compete for the honey- and the bumblebees. The Wind carries the balsamic essence of Rosemarie."

To make textual or philosophical explanations of the paintings has never been Björn's intention. The function of his writing is to expand description of his vision another nuance of his work. As in a context of senses. Here you smell the herbs heat of yellow as the air is breathing purple in the twilight. After reading Bjorn's description of the narrow markets in the south of France or his pilgrimage to Kyoto its quite easy to understand his preference for the imaginative literature of Emile Zola's "Les Halles" or Patrik Süskinds "Perfume". The juxtaposition of Björn's uninhabited landscapes can seem quite odd but these seemingly fragmented relationships provoke new awareness of the interplay of nature.
