BJÖRN WESSMAN - INSTALLATIONS

KONSTHALLEN in Hishult 2007 ”Pers port”

In the Japaninspired garden Asa Stenar, Bjorn added some important ingredients to celebrate the 10 year jubilee of its exixtence.
First the portal ”Pers Port”, with the two functions; one to lead the visitor through the passage into the garden, like a Shintoportal. The other to highlight the cunnings of the heretage of carpeting tradition in the family, especially his Godfather Per Andersson, whose turned models Bjorn used for the Tympanon in the portal.

In the bassinpart ”Hovs Hallar” Bjorn finished the stonesettings adding some important stones. It now containes of the classical zenformula 3-5-7 for stonegardens.

Once a year Bjorn returns to Hishult for to cut the hedges of Boxleaf in the so called ”strollgarden” Asa Stenar.

ZEN INSPIRED GARDEN. 1997 Hishult

In co-operation with the architects Ulla Kastrup and Björn Sjunnesson, Bjorn Wessman created a Zen inspired garden. This garden is a permanent part of the sculpture park belonging to Konsthallen in Hishult. Inside the Konsthallen is an installation which embodies both Japanese and Swedish tradition.

The holy mountain "Fuji" was formed by a 4 meters woodpile - in a traditional Swedish way. A waterfall was illustrated by 30.000 meters hanging steel cable on corrosion sheet iron/metal with a video in the back of the room where water loudly gushes ahead. The dragon is symbolised by a meandering stone fence. Everything made by elements that are represented in the Swedish culture landscape look intently in union with a Zen inspired tradition.

"Right now and till the 31 of January you can see a lyric-erotic environment by Björn Wessman . His metaphorical language is abstract, soft poetic, the colours often light and blond- even the darker colours gets a light ring. When Galleri Engström showed his paintings last Fall I experienced the exhibition as if it were fragmented- lacking direction, but now in "Zone's" intimacy, I have a completely different impression, the installation is a personally and sensual completeness. What seemed to be accidental at the last exhibition is here totally natural - as the lifelike cage birds chirping in a corner of the room"
